The following explains the pricing policy for a commissioned piece:
The following explains the pricing policy for a commissioned piece:
- I meet with the client to discuss what they want. I ask about the the size, subject, and how much they want to spend. We also may discuss favorite art and artists. This is a very important meeting as we drill down to time frames and actual costs.
- Costs include canvas, paint, and my work time.
- The client is also responsible for a 50% down payment and the completion of a signed contract.
The piece above is an example of a commission. The client is in love with haystacks. After meeting with them, I determined the following:
- They wanted the painting to feel like late summer in northern Michigan. I showed them several photos and we decide to combine a few.
- They love 'painterly' paintings and requested that the painting have that feel. Paint can cost anywhere from $4.99 to $12.99 a tube. This is important to know as the cost of the work is affected greatly by how much paint is used.
- The size of the canvas they were looking for was 24 x 36. This size of canvas can go anywhere from $24.99 to $99.99 depending on brand. The bigger the canvas, the more expensive.
- There was a time frame, as this was a gift. That meant readjusting some other work to finish this.
- For the finished piece, they requested the edges painted black and also a hanging wire attached.
In the end, we decided that a painting like this would cost them $2,000.00. It should be noted that if you want a painting framed professionally, the cost will be included in the final price.
If you are looking for a painting or drawing, lets talk!
Remember, life without art is stupid.
