new commission

northern michigan dreams

this is a new piece that will show the glorious beauty of glen arbor. it is 24 x 36. stay tuned.

we are all together (work in progress)

As I am trying to come out of the creative funk I recently found myself in, I decided to try some new things. I thought about covering this piece with a ton of clear spray enamel and building a lot more depth into the faces by adding layers. However, instead of grabbing my clear enamel, I grabbed a can of white spray paint. happy accidents!

This painting is 4ft x 4ft. It started off as a experiment with watercolor. It now includes ink and acrylic.

The process here was very organic. I find that I keep heading back to the faces that swirl in mind. They can be questioning. Or sad. Or frustrated. All in all, they represent part of me.

I spent a lot of time creating a gallery of people t0 watch me create this piece. Originally, I was going to try and include them.

And at one point in my work, I thought about leaving the faces as just "suggestions."

More wanted to join.

There personalities came out. And they separated. Well, fractured.

Currently, they are "cooking." I am trying to figure out how to find them.

these three paintings are an abstraction of a plant in a very great room. they are bright, colorful, and make me think of sunshine. the patterns in between the leaves that represent the positive and negative spaces are a main focus for this series.

The Space in Between...

These pictures are all from my current show at Da Vinci's Gallery in Ann Arbor, MI. Da Vinci's is a Salon & Gallery located in the primary pedestrian and commercial corridor of downtown Ann Arbor, MI.

The Birth of Peace...

This painting shows a glowing child holding a dove. The painting speaks to the innocence of youth and also the hope for a peaceful future. I completed this painting using a series of glazes and India ink.

Wild Flowers of Michigan

This painting was the first painting I had worked on in 15 years. It is a floral study that uses bold brush and colors. The composition focuses on whats important - the flowers! I also used the high contrast of complimentary colors to make the flowers stand out.

Two Clarks and a fish...

This painting was a commissioned piece that was completed from a photograph. I chose to keep the background very simple and focus on the relationship between the father and son and the adventure of catching a fish together. The glow surrounding them was something I added later to bring them close to the front of the image and also seem more connected. This was commissioned as an anniversary present.
